She was not sure quite how to place his tone, but in honesty, it had scared her just a little. Things must really have been different where he had come from and her mind wandered – if they could cross the ocean, would they find somewhere safe? Would everyone be happy? But there was, of course, no way that could happen. And there was a little problem with what he had said; his words went against some of the values her parents had tried to instil and for the first time, she actually felt her fur prickle with a sensation that could not quite be called anger – maybe it was more defensive than anything. “But, isn’t it better like that?” He wasn’t from here, he wouldn’t know. He wouldn’t know what the desperation of a lone cat could cause, and she liked the way that, in such a pride, they could help each other, regardless of species. That should be a good thing, right? “There are cats who do share and look out for each other…it doesn’t matter…” She elaborated, eyes downcast.
Still, she was not the type to dwell on things; she couldn’t stay still and forwards was the only way to go. So she raised her head as a smile reappeared on her small face and moved a little further up the path, ready for the lion to keep to his other words and ready to lead him safely to where he could rest. “Well, then! You’d better!” There was a little giggle before she continued, hopping a little on her paws, but careful not to slip. She had done this many times before, so she was sure of her footing – there was no reason for her not to be. “Let’s get started, Mr. Simfilan!” She was eager and he looked like he could do with a nap; it was very tempting for her as well, the excitement of meeting someone new was taking it’s toll already.

I work at a veterinary clinic and we got super busy after the devastating fire storm. I was just too exhausted every day to role play. I should be better from now on. <3
[/scrolly] | [cs=2] | [cs=2][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/hsrf46.png][scrolly:h(170),w(430),sy]Simfilan laughed. It was just as strained and harsh as the first, but this time stronger as he laughed harder, honestly glad to have run into this young female. "You misunderstand," |
he told her, smiling warmly at the defensive cat. "I was in an even sillier pack - one with blue tigers, sabre tooth cats, and blind wolves!" He explained, his voice somehow deeper now that he was talking in a rush. "What I meant was, dear lady," he began, walking slowly up the path, growing more weary with each paw step, "That's not something that usually happens. I've only ever seen it done out of desperation. So it's a good thing, but for a bad reason." He paused, taking everything in. "Things must really be bad here," he almost whispered, wondering to himself what sort of hellish land he had been washed up on this time. "Alright!" Simfilan called from a couple yards behind, chucking to himself at being called "Mr Simfilan". Her childish spirit was infectious and Simfilaan found that it made his heart pang for Mala as if the wound was opened fresh each time, but he could ignore that and deal with it in his dreams later. She stopped and listened eagerly, ears cocked, as he spoke again. This lion was so full of wisdom, she felt she could learn so much from him and could listen to his baritone from dawn until dusk. Coming from a land far away, travelling in a storm; what else could he tell?!
Her mouth agape in awe at his description of his silly pack and she couldn’t help her excited words as she bounced down closer to him. “Woah!” wonder was clear in her wide and eager eyes. She almost missed his next sentences - too busy imagining what these creatures looked liked. “I’ve never met a blue tiger! Or a sabre tooth cat. Or a blind wolf!” She wanted to now. She wanted to experience so much, to see everything she had never seen before. This lion’s tales had sparked a sense of adventure in her and made her practically vibrate in awe. She wanted to meet all these creatures!
Her tone turned thoughtful, though her mind was still busy imagining what these creatures must look like, and she replied to his comment about things being bad with the logic of youth: “But if a good thing happens for a bad reason, doesn’t that itself good? Doesn’t that good thing make the bad...go away?” She frowned, not quite sure how she could explain herself better, and instead opted for trying to teach him something. “My mum always said that ‘everything happens for a reason’. That we’re all connected by our destinies...Bad things happen so that good things can also happen!” She grinned at him, and turned back to climbing the rocks, voice quiet as she spoke again. “My family’s gone...but then I was able to meet you...”
The little feline continued up the rocks. They were almost there. She looked back to make sure Simfilan was still following her and called down to him. "C'mon slow-poke! Just a little bit more!"

[/scrolly] | [cs=2] | [cs=2][atrb=background,http://i52.tinypic.com/hsrf46.png][scrolly:h(170),w(430),sy]Kaiya's response was exactly as Simfilan had predicted it. Mouth wide in wonder, eyes large and dazzled, her mind almost visibly whirling; she was in awe and the lion could understand why, for what he had described truly was fantastical. But they did exist, even if I have nothing aside from memories as a reminder... Simfilan reminded himself, convinced to not ever allow himself to believe that the last few years had been a concoction of his own mind. Slowly staggering on, the Barbary lion looked on at his lead with soft eyes, smiling at her youthful innocence as he haggardly continued with his chatty companion.
"They are quite the sight," |
Simfilan told her, neglecting to mention the other strange members of his former 'pack'. There had been enough personal excitement and explaining for the day. Kaiya, however, had not moved on from their more philosophical discussion, her feline lips curling into a frown as she struggled to properly convey and understand, insisting on a more metaphysical approach than Simfilan adhered to. "I'm afraid you're both right and wrong," the lion began wearily, feeling the harsh heat build in intensity. Only the densest portion of his mane was still wet now, the rest of his expansive fur coated in a bold crust of salt. The sun had dried his mane quicker than ever before, confirming the lion's suspicions that he was not only in a foreign and (again), but that this land was truly hotter than his homeland of Morocco. Pausing to continue, he looked ahead at the serval, his chocolate-amber eyes tender. "A good thing is a good thing regardless of any factor," he agreed, momentarily stopping to choose his next words. "...But the problem is that a good thing doesn't always make the bad go away, or even overshadow it." He paused again, feeling like his honesty might be too forthcoming, and perhaps even offensive. But his more existentialist (and sometimes even nihilist) philosophy made concurring with the small cat difficult. As much as he would have liked to agree with her, he simply couldn't. "I don't believe that destinies or fates exist, Kaiya," he told her softly in his usual even, deep tone. "Similarly, I have always believed that things happen because of reasons, not for them." And bad things happen because that's The Way It Is, he thought to himself, suddenly very worn of the conversation. "My family is gone, too," Simfilan shared with her as she bounded up ahead of him, their destination almost within reach now. It was disheartening for Simfilan to learn of her loss, his pain mingling with empathy as he felt pangs of loneliness from losing his own family. Shaking off the cold thoughts, the lion followed the feline up, climbing his way until he wearily made it to her side, their summit almost within their grasp. He turned towards her, a warm smile lighting up his exhausted features. "Sometimes, chance falls just right." [/blockquote][/scrolly]

[cs=2]
