welcome to city of ash. we are a literate, post-apocalyptic big cat roleplay, requiring at least 150-200 words per IC post. I hope you join and enjoy your time here! ^^
The sun is burning up. Everything is dying.
A world where ash falls from the sky in place of rain and snow, where humans no longer tread and animals have reclaimed ruined towns and cities which were once theirs.
But survival is hard in this broken land. And even harder for the cats of Ash City.
With limited prey, the cats are beginning to fight amongst themselves, slaughtering each other over fresh kills, or just for the smallest of things.
With everything dying around them, how can the cats hope to survive in this harsh world?
In a world where 'survival of the fittest' is becoming more and more true with each passing day.
crocodiles have chosen to leave their homes in the marsh and go in search of food in and around the city. however, it's the cats' prey they'll be stealing.

AUTUMN YEAR ONE
days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder. at times, the cooler air after the heat of the summer is a relief but nights can be a bit too cold. beware of powerful gales blowing across the land, trees and powerlines may be blown down (if they haven't been already). there may be a few more animals out and about because of the cooler air and many are risking going out to gather food for the winter.
congratulations to thomas for being member of the month!
thomas has been with us since the old site and is an active and friendly member! he's a great roleplayer and his characters are very interesting! plus, he's just so thomas-y :P
Lucifer is our male of the month,, a handsome king cheetah who is unpredictable as the weather. A seemingly strange cheetah at first glance, and roleplayed by the talented Leaf, Lucifer seemed like the perfect choice for male of the month!
Tigers are supposed to fierce right? Wrong! Or at least, not this tiger. Flutter, played by the uber awesome acez, is a little tiger who is scared of the world and everything in it. Rather than fight with her fangs and teeth, she faints at the sight of sharp objects and hyperventilates more than she does roar. Which is why Flutter is our female of the month!

CROCODILE WRESTLING
attention cats!
it seems that some of our more 'snappy' predators are getting cocky. the crocodiles have decided that swamp life (and prey) just isn't enough and now they think they can just waltz into the city and steal our prey!
well, it's time to show 'em who's boss before you're left nibbling on some chewed up garbage! catch those pesky crocs and let them know that this is our territory. let the hunt begin!

ASH CITY
CITY CENTRE right in the middle of ash city stands a once great stone statue and fountain. the statue is worn down and chipped now and the fountain no longer holds any water. houses and shops line the streets, all dilapidated and worn out. the cracked pavements add to the dreariness of the city and old, rusted cars sit abandoned along the sides of the streets.
CLOCKTOWER standing in the city centre, the clocktower rises high. it still seems to be working, though only sometimes does it chime the hour midday. there is a strange basement that smells of moss and dirt and is completely dark. the top is filled with gears and mechanics and many a cat has met their doom from falling.

LEISURE CENTRE a large complex on the outskirts of the city. complete with a still sticky-floored theatre smelling of popcorn and with a few mice scurrying around, ice-rink where many cats embarrassingly lose their footing, a gym, filled with various pieces of equipment, and a swimming pool with, unfortunately, undrinkable water. there's certainly a lot to do here!

DIAMOND HOTEL once a grand five story hotel just a few minutes away from the city centre, the diamond hotel now stands abandoned and run down, much like the rest of the buildings here. with fourteen stories, it towers over the city and is the perfect place for a look out. the ground floor holds the reception, a dance floor and a restaurant and there is a small outdoor area on the roof, giving a great view of the rest of the city.
THE MUSEUM magnificent stone pillars with lions carved on the top and stone stairs up to the door mark the entrance to this museum. the stone is worn down and eroded, some broken off and littering the ground. inside the museum, there are various exhibits; stuffed animals in the nature exhibit, old skeletons of dinosaurs and other animals, suits of armour and old artefacts in the history exhibit, and faded paintings and statues in the art exhibit. the whole place is eerily quiet and dark and every noise echoes around the building.
CATHEDRAL a huge cathedral standing just on the edge of the city. there are two stories with two isles of hard wooden pews on each. the windows are stained glass, making the light that shines through seem multi-coloured, although some are broken and the smashed glass lies scattered on the floor. the whole place is dusty and dirty. there is a graveyard at the back of the cathedral, filled with lines of weathered stone headstones. it can be quite scary, especially at night.
CARNIVAL a ferris wheel, the carnival's main attraction, stands up like a giant ring, even taller than some of the buildings in the city. rusted rollercoasters and even a house of mirrors are only some of the attractions in this park.

DOCKS what used to be a crowded, busy harbour, now lies empty except for the large old ships and warehouses. the warehouses are filled with rows of boxes, things waiting to be loaded onto one of the waiting ships and taken out to sea. the ships themselves are huge, and some even have the walkways connecting the ships to the docks.
THE UNDERGROUND deep beneath the city lies a network of old rail tunnels. the rails are disused now and trains sit idly on the tracks, like mighty steel creatures. old rubbish and litter from the humans are scattered messily on the ground. the tunnels are pitch black, with only the smallest bit of light seeping in from cracks and holes in the roof. rats and other vermin scurry the tunnels, great for a quick snack if you can catch them. there are rumours that an old water pipe has burst in one of the tunnel intersections, creating a small underground ‘lake’. it may not be much, but it’s one of the few sources of water in this land.

OUTSKIRTS
DEAD FOREST once a vast forest, thick with trees, plants and animals, the dead forest has become dry and barren. the ground is covered in a thin layer of dry, yellow grass and tall, branchless trees rise into the sky, naked and bare. there are no rivers here and very little prey - if lucky, you may stumble upon a deer and if unlucky, a bear. the air feels strange and everything is still and eerily quiet, as if the spirits of the dead wander the land...
CHARCOAL MOUNTAINS a large mountain range that reaches far into the sky and steep slopes make it hard to climb in some places. there are a few caves and some small forests scattered on the lower parts. as you travel higher up, it becomes harder to breathe, which also means that there is very little prey to be found here. the peaks are foggy and covered in ash and snow all year round.
SOFTFALL MARSH one of the few places where there is still water, even if it is quite undrinkable. a large expanse of wetland and marsh, there are some clumps of trees scattered about, but also areas with no trees at all. the ground is wet and squelchy underfoot and in some places you might get stuck in the mud. there are a few lakes, but the water is muddy and unclear; who knows what might lurk beneath the surface. beware of crocodiles, especially if you choose to wade across the water.
BURNT MEADOWS a large meadow covered in dry yellow grass. there is the remains of a stream which winds its way through the meadow, but it is dried up now. only a few herds of herbivores live here as there is not must to graze. there is no shelter, so nothing can protect you from harsh weather conditions that often rage through the land.
DRY LAKE what was once a moderately sized lake near the meadows, has dried up completely, leaving behind only its footprint. the land is dry and cracked, but if you can dig deep enough through the hard ground, who knows what you may discover?

GREY COAST the beach here is covered in soft, grey sand and fine grey ash, apart from the rocks and ledges scattered about. cliffs cut it off from the rest of the land and the only way to get up or down is by a steep, often slippery path. there are plenty of rockpools and, nearer to the cliffs there are rocks which are often covered in seaweed. there are some ledges in the cliff face that you can climb up onto from the beach and many small caves, some going deep into the cliffs, dot the area. the tide comes in high at nightime, so it would be best to find a ledge at dusk, if you won't make it to the path in time.
CAVE NETWORK a maze of caverns and caves running around and under the whole area, some even connect with the subway tunnels underneath the city. many of the caves around ash city are interconnected, so you could end up anywhere!

GRAPHICS pictures and tables are a lovely way to personalise and add your own vibe to a post. but what if you can't/are too lazy to make one? problem solved! this is the den of character graphics; request them, show off your own, whatever. there's even a thread where you can test posting tables in order to get the coding juuust right :3
